Duck It! A New Way to Search

by Gabriel Weinberg, CEO DuckDuckGo

Dear AltSearchEngines,

I’m proud to announce Duck It, a new way to search.

Of course a search is worth a thousand words…

2009-11-04_0939

Try it out with your own searches. After you put in your terms, click the ‘Duck It’ button. Then tell us what you think so we can improve!

We added a new Zero-click Info section that clicks on the top links for you (in real time), and then pulls out sentences that apply to your search.

Duck It builds on the core idea of Duck Duck Go that search results improve when you get useful, readable content in addition to links.

sduck.v103With this new section, you can learn about your search topic without clicking. That means for many searches your search should end right away, with zero clicks. For others, it should reduce clicking.

At other search engines results often don’t make sense when read, so you are trained not to read. Instead you engage in “search yo-yo,” the endless clicking back and forth between links.

With Duck It, the results are meant to make sense when read. So you only need to click when you really want to go to that page.

Again, we’d love to hear from you. We expect Duck It to evolve significantly based on your feedback.

Regards,

Gabriel Weinberg

News! topikality goes public

2009-11-04_0927Dear AltSearchEngines, today topikality launches into the public beta phase. After many months of development and testing this is an exciting time for us. Now everyone can use topikality to save time staying up-to-date with important topics.

The central idea of topikality is to help people manage information overload. We personally found it difficult to keep up-to-date with all our topics of interest and the problem seemed to be getting worse. The exponential growth of content on the internet was creating a problem for many people. So topikality was developed with the singular aim of being a more efficient way to stay up-to-date. A system that continuously discovers, delivers and shares articles you find relevant.

Thank you to all the beta testers already using topikality to monitor:

  • their industry
  • their company and brands
  • competitors
  • existing customers and prospective clients
  • investments
  • government announcements
  • their favourite sporting teams and players
  • Hobbies and interests
  • interesting articles to share on Twitter

Thank you for all your feedback.

It has helped create a better system.

You are free to register here.

We hope you like it.
