Health search engine Healthline today announced a vertical media network for health advertisers and publishers, the new contextual ad-matching engine, HealthSTAT (Semantic Taxonomy Ad Targeting).

GoldMiner provides access to radiology images

Unlike most Internet search engines, GoldMiner understands medical vocabulary. It uses sophisticated techniques from the U.S. National Library of Medicine (part of NIH) to discover medical concepts in free-text figure captions, and uses that information to quickly retrieve relevant images.

GoldMiner incorporates standardized vocabularies, such as the Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) terms, which are used to index the medical literature in MEDLINE and PubMed.

ARRS GoldMiner™ recognizes abbreviations, synonyms, and kinds of diseases. Not only does it know that “renal calculi” and “kidney stones” mean the same thing, it knows that renal calculi are a type of kidney disease.

GoldMiner searches by both concepts and keywords. As a result, searches for “renal calculi” and “kidney stones” won’t find exactly the same entries. If a figure caption says “stones are seen in the kidney”, the words “stones” and “kidney” will be indexed, but not necessarily the concept of kidney stones / renal calculi. As with a conventional search engine, GoldMiner’s search results can depend on the presence of specific words in the figure captions.

The other day I wrote a post about People Search. The point was that in today’s world, you may be searching for certain people, but unknown to you, someone may be searching for you. You can be both the searcher and the searched at the same time.

This is a concept Job Search engines have had for a while. You can search their site for a good job, but can also post your resume and let recruiters search for you. The searcher and the searched – at the same time.

I decided to show you this new site, launching today, MoneyAisle, because when it comes to “Financial Search,” you would probably think of searching on the Internet for the best CD rate (for example). But with Money Aisle that is reversed. You announce your desired amount and term, and the banks search for you. You actually watch them search until there is one highest bidder – i.e. the bank willing to pay you the highest rate – right now.

What’s next? With Health Search 2.0, you might upload your health information so that if there is news – important news like a recall of one of your meds – you will be contacted.
