What is WikiAnswers’ AnswerThon?
WikiAnswers is built on the premise that everyone has knowledge to share and deserves the opportunity to share it with the world. That’s why several times throughout the year, we challenge users in an AnswerThon — an organized event designed to foster the sharing of knowledge. During the AnswerThon, participants will answer as many questions as they can over 48 hours with the hopes of spreading knowledge and winning prizes.
When?
The first-ever WikiAnswers AnswerThon begins at midnight (EST) on Saturday (late Friday night), March 1, 2008. The event ends 48 hours later, at midnight (EST) on Monday (late Sunday night) March 3. Only answers that are posted within this time-frame will be counted as part of the contest. Sign up

eDrugSearch announced today that they’re ready to become something more — specifically, the leading social network for prescription drug consumers. They write:
Why a social network for online drug buyers?
Prescription drug consumers have shown significant interest in social networks on general health sites, indicating — we think — an unmet demand for a niche community. Drug consumers relish the opportunity to share their experiences with one another. These individuals are increasingly turning to each other, and other data points on the Web, rather than simply relying on pharmaceutical company advertising (or a rushed doctor’s appointment) for their information.
The Health 2.0 movement, which we strongly embrace, is all about empowerment and making more informed decisions. The eDrugSearch Community will help our members to make choices that save them money, and keep them safe, when buying drugs online.
We encourage you to sign up and try out the site, because that’s the best way to explore the new features. But to give you an idea of the capabilities we’ve added, eDrugSearch members are now able to:
- Rate and review pharmacies. Members can rate and contribute candid reviews of participating pharmacies, providing firsthand accounts of their experiences.
- Rate and review drugs. Members can share their experiences with specific medications, sharing information on efficacy, side effects and value.
- Track medications. Members can monitor the latest news, member comments, and price changes for the medications they take regularly.
- Make friends and join groups. Members can add to their knowledge of specific conditions and medications by forming interest groups and adding friends.
- Ask the community. Members can ask questions of the community and rate the answers received.
- Earn drug discounts. By participating in the eDrugSearch Community, members earn points that soon will be redeemable for drug discounts at participating pharmacies.
I just signed up, you might want to try it as well — join up now!

Stumpedia, a global democratic search engine powered by the people, for the people has officially launched.
Stumpedia is a community built and driven social search engine that relies on human participation to index, organize, and review the world wide web. It will not depend on bots, or algorithms to make decisions on the relevance and ranking of search results. “Users will have complete control over all the data”, says Stumpedia CEO Luis Pereira. He added, “The black box mentality of industry leaders in the search space must be broken. We want to establish a truly democratic process where everyone has a say and their input on search results and features matter.”
Web 2.0 has created an interesting humans vs algorithms battle in the online search space. Stumpedia will enable users around the world to share their knowledge and interests with one another and provide an alternative to traditional search. Users are encouraged to create custom content pages for any possible search term in the world and links that will help people find relevant results and answers to their search requests. Links to social bookmarks, social profiles, blogs, news stories, authoritative articles, videos, images, and web pages are welcomed.
In addition to general search term queries, people go online to find information about other people. According to Search Engine Watch, there are 25 to 50 million proper name searches performed each day. If looking for information about colleagues, new clients, friends, or potential dates in traditional search engines, searchers may get all sorts of information. Stumpedia will make it easier for others to find information about someone and enable users to manage their online identity.

Eurekster is a leader in social search. Their product, the swicki, is a custom search and discovery engine.
Having pioneered and optimized universal search results, Eurekster today announces the launch of its next generation search results page (SERP), which surfaces the following community content in an engaging, user-centric interface:
· Summary of recent comments on every page
· Summary of contributors on every page
· Popular (top voted) articles summarized on swicki home page
· Related stories from RSS feeds on swicki home page
· Summary of recent posts on swicki home page
Please see the interactive demo.
On the new SERP, users can view the most popular content all on one page and quickly see the most recent activity within the community. The page layout makes it easy to differentiate popular community results from RSS stories and Web results.
The next generation SERP, currently in limited availability, gives publishers the opportunity to engage users on a deeper level, and facilitate collaboration within the community. For marketers, Eurekster’s new customized content discovery capabilities create highly targeted advertising inventory. Leveraging the passionate and informed communities in verticals and sub-verticals, Eurekster will initially roll out its SERP to the do-it-yourself (DIY) communities, which rank high in user interest in related content.
