Omgili just never seems to stop adding features and innovations to it’s site! Here’s a short summary / chronology of their enhancements, beginning with today’s big news.

First of all, what makes Omgili unique?

* Omgili is the best way in the known universe to find out what people are saying about anything and everything!

* Omgili is your way to find “subjective information”. As opposed to traditional search engines, which search for sites and pages, Omgili finds consumer opinions, debates, discussions, personal experiences, answers and solutions. Most of the questions have already been answered – find the answers through Omgili. Most of the technical problems have been solved – find the solutions through Omgili. Most of the experiences have already been described – Find these descriptions through Omgili.

* Omgili is a specialized search engine that focuses on “many to many” user generated content platforms, such as, Forums, Discussion groups, Mailing lists, answer boards and others.

* Omgili is a crawler based, vertical search engine that scans millions of online discussions worldwide in over 100,000 boards, forums and other discussion based resources. Omgili knows to analyze and differentiate between discussion entities such as topic, title, replies and discussion date.

Today we released a service that complements Google’s search results. By using the Google@Omgili service, you get the best of two worlds – Objective Search (Google) combined with Subjective Search (Omgili). Other than searching on both search engines and getting more information about the search terms you entered, you also get discussions about Google’s search results. For example, if you are interested in learning more about Barack Obama, searching on Google@Omgili will return results from Google and Omgili, but also discussions about the links returned by Google, a deeper conversations linking to those results.

Here you can get an updated view at the latest and hottest discussion topics on the web. Omgili buzz displays the top topics in categories like: videos, news, products and movies. These are not just pages people go to, they are pages and items people referred to on an online discussion. You can link to the item itself or strait to the discussions about it.
Omgili buzz also displays a buzz cloud that portrays all of the top discussion topics – the larger the type, the more popular the topic is. Just click a topic and see what people are saying about it.

And how can we pass on Buzz graphs? The Omgili Buzz Graphs tool is on this site as well. Enter up to five phrases or key words into the boxes, choose your time frame and the type of chart you prefer to create your own Buzz graph. The graph you created can be easily embedded into your site. Just follow the buzz graph link and follow the instructions.

Omgili Buzz Graphs let you measure and compare the Buzz of any term. The Buzz is the percentage of the term out of the total number of discussions Omgili covered on a specific date. You can also embed the Buzz Graph inside any web-page and monitor the buzz on a daily basis.

We just released Omgili Search Aid – a tool that helps the user in formulating a search query. By searching in search queries other users have performed, you find ideas about the correct keywords to use in order to get the best results. But hey, you say, I have Google Suggest and Yahoo! Search Assist for that, what is the difference?

Well there are actually three main differences:

1. Whereas with Google/Yahoo you can easily use their results only with their own search engine, we offer an easy search in Omgili and Google/Yahoo as well.
2. The mentioned services offer maximum 10 results for each search term, where Omgili Search Aid returns every query combination we have ordered by relevancy and popularity.
3. The data in Yahoo and Google is edited whereas with Omgili Search Aid we release it “As is”.

November 28, 2007

Today we launched a Beta version of the newest addition to the Omgili domain – Omgili Product reviews. The site enables you to get quick reference to consumer sentiment as its portrayed in leading product review sites.

Enter any product into the search window and the site will show you all the products that match your query, the average review score the product received and a colorful animated slider that shows the number of relevant reviews sorted by the review scores.

When you choose a product from the results and click on it you get the product page. This page includes direct links to the relevant reviews, a graph view of the reviews and additional Omgili discussion results, which are relevant to the product.
Omgili Product Reviews is a great way to make wise consumer decisions. You don’t have to count on any one entry or on any single site – Omgili Product Reviews gives you an executive summary. All the information you need in one place.

FAROO P2P Web Search Announces Public Beta!

February 21st, 2008 by Charles S. Knight
Posted in Alts, In Beta, News, Updates | No Comments »

From today, FAROO’s private beta test becomes public. The current release marks a milestone, which allows them to open the beta test to a wider audience.

The idea behind FAROO:

The collection of the whole, exponentially growing Web on a single central system is not successful on the long run. Despite constantly increasing investments in hardware the completeness and freshness of the search index will steadily decrease.

With the concept of a distributed peer-to-peer search engine the same users, who provide the content of the internet assure also, that it is findable too. Thus the search results may be provided more up-to-date, more comprehensive and more cost-efficient.

The searcher becomes a part of FAROO. The architecture is decentralized like the Internet itself. There stands no more central institution between the information source and the searcher. With the tremendous growth of information the relevance of search results becomes more important. This is assured by an fully automatic ranking of web page content by the users of the peer-to-peer search engine.

They have been busy to further improve the search experience of their p2p web search engine.

Network Visualization
New geographical P2P network visualization at the search page like so:

Auto Suggest
New Ajax based query auto suggest.

External Sources
External source integration for additional results, if a query can’t be answered from the distributed index.

Active Crawler
New active, community directed crawler. Crawler start points are derived from searches of the FAROO users.

And much more. Try FAROO and then come back and leave a comment for our readers.
