Does Web-Alerts.com really work? You tell me.

With Web-Alerts.com, you can stay up to date with your favorite websites. Enter the address for your favorite website. When something new is posted, you will receive a text message on your mobile phone. You can even choose a keyword and be alerted only when new items contain your keyword.  Very cool.

This service is free. They do not charge a fee for using this service, however, your provider may charge for receiving standard text messaging depending on your service plan, so please check first.

You can unsubscribe at any time. Just open the link in your text message and choose “My Alerts” to remove any alert you are subscribed to.

They value your privacy. Your phone number is only used to deliver the alerts you have subscribed. They will not use it for other purposes or sell your information to others.

This service is provided by FeedM8

The following mobile carriers are currently supported:

US- AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Nextel, Alltel, Metro PCS, Helio

Canada- Rogers, Fido, Telus, Virgin Mobile, Sasktel, MTS

But here’s the problem.  My phone uses a carrier that they do not support.  So, would some of you be willing to subscribe to AltSearchEngines.com and see if Web-Alerts.com really works?

If you do, please leave a detailed comment for the rest of us.  Thanks in advance! -Charles

What do I do here?  Is it acceptable for me to tell you how giving I am?

AltSearchEngines is governed by our Ten Commandments:

#1 – Thou shalt never use the word “contact.”  We have relationships with people, not  “contacts.”

#2 – Thou shalt reply to every reader who takes the time and effort to leave a comment.

#3 – Thou shalt ascribe credit to every post that was written or suggested by someone else.

#4 – Thou shalt not allow anyone to “comment and run.”  Readers with an issue with a search engine should be willing to talk with that search engine directly.

#5 – Thou shalt not run down any Alternative Search Engines.  Other blogs can do that.  ASE’s mission is to be “pro alternative search engines” – all of them.  However, Debates, Guest Authors, Top ___ Lists and such shall provide fair evaluations and contrasting viewpoints.

#6 – Thou shalt not pander to sponsors.  Only 2 of the 10 Search Engines of the Month were sponsors.

#7 – Thou shalt take a look at any search engine suggested by a reader in a comment, email or call.  Thou shalt not post it if it is no good.

#8 – Thou shalt not favor American or English-only search engines.  All global alternative search engines shall be given equal weight – although they may have an English version or translation.

#9 – Thou shalt not run down any other blogger or blog, however tempting that may be.  ;-)

#10 – Thou shalt exhort the Alt Search Engines to work together for their mutual benefit and success.

“Just vote your conscience” – Lewis Rothschild

Lewis Rothschild: Yeah, just vote your conscience, you chicken-s**t lame-***!  [hangs up]  We lost Jarrett.

Leon Kodak: Well, I hope so, because, you know, if that was an “undecided”, then we need to work on our people skills.

-The American President

AltSearchEngines is pleased as punch to be nominated for not one, not two, but three blog awards!  (The first two are listed here, the third is in the next post.)

But no one should vote for us just because we ask you to – that makes no sense.

We urge you to look over all of the contenders and vote for the best one.
