Hungarian Search Engine Forumkereso

Every Saturday on AltSearchEngines we traipse from country to country in search of alternative search engines.  We call it “Around the World in 80 Weeks,” and if you want to see where we’ve been so far, click on the “Global” tab at the top of this page.

Are you a) bilingual and b) a fan of search engines?  If you said “yes” to both of those, we’d love to hear from you!  Our future course will be governed by those who volunteer to guide us.

Just email me at: Charles@ReadWriteWeb.com

Speaking of International volunteers, one such volunteer is T. S. with Forumkereso.

Forumkereso is an alternative search engine in Hungary.  It does not crawl, index, or search the entire web, but rather it focuses on forums and discussions, which reminds me of August’s Alternative Search Engine of the Month, Omgili.  Maybe Ran will leave a comment about that.

T.S. shares this one example: If you were about to buy a “SomeCo. ABC1000,” pretty much all you would find with the major search engines would be sponsored ads and commercial sites.

With their search engine you would get the opinions of actual users of that product, which would truly help you decide whether or not to buy it.

One important note:  I did not see an “English” version, so it will help tremendously if you can read Hungarian!  Likewise, of all of the Top 10 Hungarian search engines listed here, I could only find English versions on Google and PolyMeta.  MSN, Yahoo!, and Ask did not cover Hungary seperately.

Here’s the rest of the Top 10:

  PolyMeta (Hungarian and English versions)

  Heureka

  Tango

  goliat

 kurzor

  Google Hungary

Yahoo! just has a Directory entry.

Ask does not cover Hungary (left), nor MSN (below).

Honorable mention:  AOL came up with Anna’s Hungarian Kitchen restaurant in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Next Week: We visit South Korea

    Did someone say comment?
I tried to examine this site but even though I came from an Hungarian family I don’t speak or understand a word…
I tried to play with it a bit and it seems to be a useful site for Hungarians, since it searches in a numerous Hungarian only forums. I didn’t find any indication of any special analysis of the discussions there but again I couldn’t really understand it so I was like a blind man in a dark room with no cane :)
