Every Wednesday on AltSearchEngines we visit the virtual offices of an Alternative Search Engine. This week we travelled “across the pond” to the headquarters of Business Search search engine Knuru to see what they’re up to. The CEO of Knuru is Bassim Haidar.

Knuru is committed to being on the forefront of the business research field. Our developers are constantly working to bring you not only the most relevant information, but to do so in the most intelligent manner possible. We developed our natural language search approach to allow you to search for total concepts, not just keywords, and now we’re ready to give you all the tools necessary for research results, not just search results.

The following are just a few of the new functionalities currently under development at the knuru labs in London. Think of anything else you’d like to see, or just want to give our programmers some encouragement on the projects below? Send us your thoughts. We’re building this for you after all.

Saved Research : Forget printing every single partially relevant document you can find, and mining through a stack of papers and books later. We’re working on saved search portfolios that will enable you to keep your relevant results handy for further analysis later.

Mobile Access : We know the drill. It’s five minutes before the board meeting and you need a second opinion on the future of the Yuan pronto. Or maybe you’ve got some time to kill on the train, and all you’ve got is your Blackberry. We’re building a mobile access portal just for you, with the same great search functionality you’ll find on our home page. Contextualized summaries have never looked better.

Personalized Home Pages : The research process is all about what makes sense to you. If you can’t organize information the way you want, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll ever make effective use of it. At knuru, we’re not one to step in the way of that process, and building a user customizable interface is the first step in committing to that goal. It’s not just about being deeply relevant, it’s about giving you the tools to act on that information.

You will also be able to add us to the list of search engines in your Firefox browser; that’s coming very soon. And look for convenient desktop widgets for Windows Vista and Mac OSX so you can search from your desktop, and bypass the browser.

We have RSS feed Alternative Search Engines in the Top 100 (see below);
here is a new one: Search4RSS.

Here’s how it works (you can print this page or take notes.)

1) Go to Search4RSS.

In the search box, type in “Search Engines” When you do, a drop down menu will appear; like this:

Hit <enter> and the search results page will look like this:

Next, double click on “Alt Search Engines” and this next screen will appear on the right: (The little blue arrows will take you to that post; the green “+” will mark that post as a favorite.)

When you click on each gold star, you make AltSearchEngines a favorite site, and our RSS feed a favorite feed. :-)

If you are a Yahoo! user, you can sign into the site to save your choices.

Here at AltSearchEngines, we want to pause for a moment to say “Thank You” to our Sponsors. They, along with our readers, make this blog possible. So as the King would say, “Thank you, thank you very much!”
