At AltSearchEngines, we are crossing the globe in search of more search engines! Every Saturday we visit a different country and have a look around. Today we are going “down under” to the beautiful country of New Zealand, location site of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and home to Read/WriteWeb’s Richard MacManus and veteran ASE guest blogger Kaila Colbin!

Help wanted: While we can read these search engines by ourselves, our lack of language skills prevent us from going to Japan, Italy, Korea, Mexico, or Canada. Well, maybe not Canada. If you are a) bilingual and b) interested in search engines, we are seeking volunteers to join us. Just email me at Charles@ReadWriteWeb.com.

This list was graciously provided by Dave Andrews, a Kiwi with Linknz.   Linknz is enabled with Answer.com’s Answers tips, so when I received my search results, I could double clink on any word that I did not know, and immediately get an Answers.com definition.

index NZ Results returned a good selection of local information.

kiwi search A Pay-per-Click search engine with no ads to click on.

SearchNZ has a great feature not available on most other Web search engines – it’s “fuzzy”, allowing you to search on words even if you are unsure of the correct spelling.

NZSearchEngine adds the features whereby you can rate a link to a site and post a comment about it.  Good descriptions.  When I clicked on the ‘chat’ link, it took me to Youggle: Youggle.com is the NZ Version of Myspace, made so you can Search & Network with other New Zealanders & International people.

 Anzwers  A basic search engine.

Netfinder offers to translate New Zealand web sites into 9 languages.  But it has a direct link to Adult content, so we’ll pass on this one.

LemmeFind is a New Zealand Meta Search Engine that searches Google, Yahoo!, and MSN.

 Google.nz  Say no more!

Yahoo.nz The standard Yahoo! results, but you can search the Web, Australia, or New Zealand.
