Some searches are more serious than others
A couple of weeks ago, I did a post on Health Vertical search engines. It just so happened that the night I wrote it, my brother-in-law suffered a heart attack. He’s fine now, but it really drove home the point that some searches are more serious than others. Some have a lot riding on them. Take Job search engines, another very popular Vertical category.
My friend “J.D.” is a single parent with a pink slip
In the following weeks, we’ll track the progress of a close friend of mine, we’ll call him “J. D.” J.D. is a single parent, he has a young boy. They lost their wife/mother in a terrible car accident a few years ago, making J.D. the sole bread winner. Well, about a month ago J. D. got notice that his company was leaving town, and they weren’t taking their technical staff with them. J.D. has a lot of close ties to this area, so he wants to find a suitable job around here. Of course no one is saying that he shouldn’t talk to friends, network, read the local classifieds, and so forth, but what about Job search engines? Are they really any good at all, or do they promise more than they can really deliver; real job openings that fit some criteria - location, technical skills, and salary range?
What Job Search engine(s) have you used?
So we’ll keep in touch with J.D. as he tries these search engines - but is there one that you would recommend? Please mention it in the comments, and I’ll pass it along and include it in future updates to this post. Thanks!
