Over the holiday season, we made a number of improvements to Zakta and added a few new features.

Image search:

Now, for all your queries, relevant images from the Web are automatically included in the organized search results on Zakta. You can simply click the “More” link below the image listing to get more images added to your result set.

Video search:

As you probably already know, Zakta search results are organized into a single result page. Now, matching videos from the Web are automatically included in your results. Like with Images, you can click on “More” below the last video to get more images into your results.

What is unique about Image and Video searching on Zakta?

Image and Video searching are more powerful on Zakta than elsewhere on the Web. Here’s why:

You can edit the Image and Video results — you can delete them, drag-and-drop to reorganize their order as you see fit, and even add annotations and tags to them.

You can automatically create Zakta Guides from the search results that include the Images and Videos in them with no extra effort.

From within the Guide Editor in Zakta, you can incrementally add new Images and Videos to your Zakta Guides as needed, i.e. Images and Videos are now fully integrated into Zakta’s personal and social search framework for finding, personalizing, and sharing information from the Web.

An image search engine for historical photos

VintageWhat is Vintage Historical photographs? It’s a photo library and search engine all in one – V like Vintage bridges the gap between analogue photography and digital technology – and invites all amateur photographers, collectors and anyone interested in history on a fascinating journey through time featuring the countless faces of history. For this purpose, V like Vintage addresses all those who own historic photographs.

Nowadays, there are treasures to be found in every country. One of the main tasks of V like Vintage consists of finding them and putting them on display. It is an attempt to encourage other photo enthusiasts to post their pictures on our website so that these treasures are not lost, but visible for all to see.

On the one hand, the focus is on private photographs – precious contemporary documents which were previously only marvelled at by the owners of old family albums and can now be made accessible to a large photo community. We enjoy looking at the pictures the new users post. They feature anything from beach holidays dating back several decades to war scenarios.

At the same time, V like Vintage serves as a search engine for professional providers such as archives, galleries and publishing houses. The membership, which, with the essential features, is currently still free of charge, enables all owners of private and commercial photo collections, amateur pictures and fine art photographs to upload the latter for free. In terms of user friendliness, the description, the assignment of keywords and the geographic classification of the photos ensure that they are as easy to find as possible.

At present, there are still generations among us who have amazing photographs in their homes which nobody is aware of. But in ten to fifteen years, that could all be gone. Many of these treasures will be destroyed – throughout the world. However, the older we get, the more these documents, these old pictures are elevated to an art form. Imagine we had the last one hundred and fifty years captured in a photo – that would be the most unambiguous form of communication!

With V like Vintage, we would like to contribute to these unique photographic documents being preserved for generations to come.

tineye_logo_bigTinEye is a reverse image search engine. You can submit an image to TinEye to find out where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions of the image exist, or to find higher resolution versions. TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks. For some real TinEye search examples, check out our Cool Searches page.
