‘The Fatabase’ nutritional search engine

fatabase

If you’re heading to the Olympics in Vancouver in a few weeks the “Fatabase” (talk about a name that gets right to the point) might be of interest. It contains nutritional information for 64 chain restaurants in British Columbia. Of course, many of these dining establishments are located in other provinces and in the United States so this info could also be useful.

Where possible, all data has been collected directly from corporate websites of the restaurants mentioned. Where the available information has been incomplete, further data has been gathered from US parent companies, unpublished corporate info provided by the company offline and, where necessary, our own calculations. All data is subject to change. The date our data was confirmed as accurate is provided. Where non-publicly available data has been used, notes are made available explaining the source of content.

Nutritional information data often varies from the product sold in-store by as much as 20% due to supplier variations, customer preferences, and staff straying from recommended recipes. Some information included may be several years old and will generally not include new products, promotional products and ‘meal’ combinations.

Due to format variations in the original data, some data inaccuracies may exist due to inherent technical challenges in gathering information from a wide array of formats and sources. The Vancouver Sun provides links to the original nutritional information source wherever possible and advises all consumers to double check against the given corporate website and in-store information when making any purchasing decisions based on the information provided.
