We provide a feed of live photos from Flickr, Facebook, Twitpic, and Yfrog by scanning feeds from Twitter and FriendFeed for your search terms. roooby is currently in public beta, and more feeds will be added soon.
roooby is also smart! If you search for @stephenfry we’ll only show you photos by stephen. Or try *New York for images taken from the Big Apple.
Check out our search tips for more ideas on how to make a more targeted search.
What’s roooby?
roooby is a “social image search engine”. It scours various feeds for images that have been uploaded and tagged by regular people. Just like you!

And what’s the point of that?
It depends. Some people might just want to use it for fun, and hey that’s cool with us.
We believe the real power of roooby is communication. A picture speaks a thousand words, and roooby allows you to see what you’re looking for. Maybe it’s a breaking news story and you want the latest from the scene, or perhaps you’re going to a new city and want to look around. You might be researching a project for school or work and need inspiration or a photograph. With roooby, all this and more is possible.
Isn’t that like Google image search?
Not really. Google image search is perfect at what it does, but it’s not real time. roooby is live. As soon as the tagged image is uploaded it will show up in the search results. It really is instantaneous!!
That’s why we say that roooby is “what the world sees”
Where are all these images coming from?
Currently roooby is in beta, and it’s grabbing images from hosts like Flic.kr, twitpic and yfrog. FriendFeed is being added soon, which will bring (amongst others) Facebook photos into the mix. That’s a lot of photos!
Can I search through images on a particular topic?
Of course! There are lots of different ways to use roooby, so check out the search tips for more advice.

People who need their news in a hurry — or read it on a tiny screen — should check out NewsDeck, a streamlined version of USA TODAY’s website that rolled out this morning in beta.
NewsDeck provides a scrollable text overview of the headlines in every section of USATODAY.com’s main site, including News, Sports, Life, Weather and, of course, Tech. To make for speedy loading, there are no photos or videos — just links.
The site is designed for netbooks, the tiny laptop computers that are soaring in popularity.
More than 21 million are expected to be sold this year, researcher Gartner says.

Netbooks “have smaller screen sizes, and some of them have slower (Internet) connections,” says Stephen Kurtz, USATODAY.com’s technology director. That can make viewing a major website tricky. So News Deck provides “a quick scannable page with a lot of content,” Kurtz says. “It’s simple and clean.”
The site is an early beta version, but Kurtz says improvements are planned based on reader feedback. One possibility is a customizable page that allows readers to choose which headlines they see.
USA TODAY also offers news widgets for Facebook, MySpace, and other social networks; a popular iPhone and Android app, and other interactive tools. Competitors include the The New York Times’ Skimmer.
