Soungle “The simplest way to search and find sounds”

May 23rd, 2009 by Charles S. Knight
Posted in Verticals | 1 Comment »

start_logo1Soungle is a free site for finding all kind of sound FX and musical instruments samples on our mega online library. As different from most of similar sites, Soungle is NOT a Web search engine. It only searches in our growing monster database. Our goals are to keep it simple to use (search, preview and download) and to keep it free.

animalwolf-43eb798bd4cef9ef9d50ff68410bd934_mKeyword searches are performed by entering any word or phrase in a search box. The retrieved results of a keyword search are displayed ten to a page.

Clicking on play icon allows you to preview a file.

Download button instantly downloads the sound effect or musical instrument sample file. A short description of the sound appears on top of every sound , followed by the frame rate, duration and bit rate.

Remember, all of our sound effects and samples are royalty free for downloading.  Source: Soungle

spark Try SPARKtooth

  • We check websites every 10 minutes
  • Once we find what you’re looking for we remove your email from our system
  • We don’t share your email address with anyone
  • We don’t search the entire domain – just the URL you provide to us
  • No, the email addresses on the homepage are not real – that would be ridiculous

Faceting Search – Eccellio the web miner

Eccellio web miner started off as Goomatrix in March 2008 and went live as beta in April 2009. At the same time they added Eccellio Science miner as a new offering.

Eccellio has a new user interface feature named “Faceted Classification”. Eccellio uses Google (Custom Search) but it adds at user interface level functionality which allows you to refine your search easily. I.e., you can refine your search results by one click. This comes quite handy if you do not know all the features Google offers and you do not want to learn them. E.g., instead of adding filetype:pdf to your search in the Google interface you can just click the checkbox at the pdf icon and you are all set.

Eccellio web miner and Eccellio science miner share the following one click setting:
* Time ( No Timeframe, Past 24 hours, Past week, Past month and Past year)
* Country / Language (World, English, Spanish, German, French and Italian)
* Domain (World, .com, .es, .de, .fr, .it and .co.uk)
* File formats (all, PDF, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Torrent and RSS)

Eccellio web miner has the following one click subject filters:
roadmap* All The Web
* Program Languages
* Open Source
* Movies
* Cities
* Social Networks
* Encyclopedias
* Cooking
* Bid Sites
* Astronomy (with a link to the Science miner)

Eccellio science miner has the following one click subject filters:
* All The Web
* Agriculture
* Alternative Sciences
* Astronomy
* Biology
* Chemistry
* Earth Sciences
* Environment
* Math
* Physics
* Social Sciences
* Scientific Software
* Technology

Even that they just have started on their 36 month road map are things to come like “Pervasive Search” which, I assume from my background knowledge, seems to be a search tied in at operating system level (maybe a desktop search with their GUI?

Google does not only provide the search results via the custom search engine but also the ads which seem to finance the project and clutter the interface a bit. The new UI for the Google search is great if you do not want to dig into the advanced functions of Google – a one click interface can bring you quite far deeper into the results. If they add e.g. thumb shots for the search results and make a interface look nicer it could be a good alternative representation of the Google search results. But you have to consider that Google also started to add one click filters (called Show options… – I especially like the wonder wheel).
