Stumpedia Advertising – A New Model?

Here at AltSearchEngines, we’re usually busy finding the newest niche out there and giving it to you in a post on an alt. Rarely do we report on an innovation tangential to the world of search.

This time, however, there has been a development, pioneered by our old friend Stumpedia, that is innovating in the world of advertising.

Right now, the accepted advertising model is “Pay Per Click.” Advertisers bid on certain keywords and then hope you’ll be interested in them, and pay if you click on it. If you write one of the keywords in an email somewhere, the ads will suddenly show up on the side, freaking you out kind of, wondering who exactly is watching you write a Dear John letter, and then showing you an ad about new-age ecological toilet-Johns, only getting money if you actually happen to be interested in ecological toilets at the time. This confuses you, and you probably won’t even click on it, because you don’t know who they are and you can’t talk to them. Meet Stumpedia’s “Pay Per Chat.”

Pay Per Chat begins with keywords, which show up on the side whenever a user does a Stumpedia search. The trick is, if you’re interested in something that’s being offered, you can then send a short text message to that advertiser, who then, if he feels you match him, can respond to your query. The advertiser only pays for queries they respond to. This makes advertising more personal, matched, targeted, and all in all more logical.

To sign up, you’ll need a Stumpedia account, which you can get for free with a valid email address. Then do a search. If the keywords you searched for have been targeted by an advertiser, you’ll see a box at the right, along with the number of advertisers waiting to text you right back.

If you want to sign up as an advertiser, just click here. Then type the keywords you want and submit, then pay per chat.

For advertisers – you get a free ride for the rest of 2009, which is quite a chunk of time to try this baby out, so I think you should do it, entrepreneurishly speaking, that is. In the future, users will be able to limit the number of responses they get, and they’ll be able to block advertisers, and vice versa, if people don’t get along, which has been known to happen amongst members of the human race.

    Entrepreneurishly speaking? I like that!!!

I believe the idea is perfect. But it is a problem that your volume of visits on Stumpedia is presently so low that advertising should be free (as you are offering). I will, therefore, give it a try. Brilliant.

Pay-Per-Chat is about connecting consumers with advertisers in the most efficient and cost effective way possible. Self-employed individuals such as plumbers or electricians who are out in the field working do not have time to be digging through all the twitter noise for leads. They just may have the time however to respond to one or two SMS messages per day in real-time from a targeted lead that may result in a potential new customer. The cost per lead is $0.05 cents which compared to any other forms of traditional online and offline advertising do not compare.
