What prevents migraines? The new Hakia look!

Hakia, the Web’s pioneering semantic search engine, announced that it is launching a new User Interface today that takes search beyond 10 blue links. The new interface communicates hakia’s core principles of focus, clarity and credibility in Web search.
A popular Web source may not always be credible, and a credible Web source may not always be popular. hakia introduced this dimension to search in April 2008 when it started showing credibility-stamped results for health and medical searches from sites vetted by the Medical Library Association. The new design allocates visual space for credibility-stamped results to be displayed alongside regular search results. hakia is pioneering this vision compared to other leading search engines, like Google.

To test the new site, try a search for “what prevents migraine”. Users will find that hakia search results go beyond the standard 10 blue links and are presented in a tabbed format. For any given query, the first tab – “All Results” – provides a three-column overview of the Web results, including results from hakia Credible Sites, images and news, if available. The right-most column is reserved for ads, in order to provide a clear, unbiased presentation; the goal is to reduce clutter that blurs focus from the search.
The remaining tabs break out results even further, so that users can filter depending on what they are looking for – credible sites, news and images. The last tab, “Meet Others,” allows users to access hakia’s innovative social networking capability where users can meet others when they search for the same or similar information.
On the right side of the screen, three additional tabs allow users to access additional features exclusive to hakia.
These are:
* My hakia: A front-page personalization interface allowing users to obtain search results from emerging news and dynamic content, and customized to the topics of their choice
* Sign in (hakia CLUB): Designed for those who are interested in hakia technology, partnership, and business. hakia CLUB members get privileged access to upcoming releases
* hakia Galleries: For shorter, popular queries, hakia generates a page of categorized results, known as hakia Galleries. Galleries provide a balanced presentation for any given query, by generating results for various aspects of the search term, rather than just 10 blue links. For example, a search for “Madonna” will categorize results in areas such as images, blogs and fan sites, lyrics, myths and controversies and more. This presentation is equivalent to conducting 10 searches on other Web sites
“We have been working hard for some time now to make the search experience better for users than what they are used to with today’s popular search engines,” said Riza Berkan, CEO, hakia.com. “hakia’s new look bolsters this promise even further, by making credible sources available to all in a more well-focused way – quality over popularity.”
