Social shopping. Before the internet era, it was a bunch of people getting together at a supermarket to blab at each other as they swept products off the shelves, like spam, or digital cameras. In Miami, where I used to live, it was people running into each other at Publix (Where Shopping is a Pleasure, or at least it was before they changed the slogan), and asking how everyone’s respective progeny were doing. In Bnei Brak, where I live now, it’s a bunch of Ultra Orthodox Jews with 10 kids buying colossal vats of basic staples like pretzels and corn oil for the week and talking about the housing crisis.
Though for Tribesmart, it’s sharing the internet shopping experience beyond pithy comments at the end of a product like “Five Stars” which doesn’t really tell you much. According to Tribesmart, their goal is to have a true picture of products, general, niche and specialist, based on the real experiences of those who have bought them.
Tribesmart wants to create a shopping site of “tribes” aimed at drawing on collective experiences to provide a content-packed website which helps others find the most innovative, quirky, durable, useful, green, stylish and fun products according to the consumers – the tribes.

Tribes described in more detail: Make a list, check it twice, share with a group of friends. Join a group interested in technology, discuss products, get the one that most people recommend, or get the one that most people hate just to spite them. There’s also a chat window on the bottom of the page. The most important and practical things about this—massive advertising campaigns are leveled out with truly quality products based on the approval of the Tribes, rather than the TV executives.

iMedix did it with health, Sightix did it with search, and now Tribesmart’s doing it with shopping.
You can add a product from anywhere, and you can use the tools that Tribesmart offers for your browser to stick on your toolbar to do it. Then you put it in the database, and talk about it, so the more people that join, the bigger the review base will be.
