SemantiNet – The Alt Engine that Thinks for You

If you think that a search engine that reads your mind is scary, you might want to try and calm yourself before using SemantiNet, headed by a double-Tal-team (the two founders are named Tal Keinan and Tal Muskal).

Based in Tel (not Tal) Aviv, this alt is touted as a “personal assistant to the web.”  SemantiNet is an intelligent browser plugin that enlightens search by discovering, integrating and providing easy access to personally-relevant content on the pages you view. It presumably becomes more intelligent as you continue to use it.

Always working behind the scenes, it scans each webpage and points out anything related to your world: your people, your interests, your history. The result is a web that is more personal and powerful for you. For an interview with one of the Tals in charge, check out this video:

SemantiNet makes use of social networks like Facebook, FriendFeed, Twitter, Digg, Last.FM, and takes them with you as you roam the web. It checks in with your friends and contacts to see what they’re into and up to and lets you know how content you encounter relates to their activities, opinions, links and ideas.

Once installed, SemantiNet begins working behind the scenes, constantly researching while you freely browse – politely integrating valuable links and info directly into the web pages you view. It is free, fast and private, and it is now in alpha testing. To sign up and check it out, go to their website and put your email address in over there:
