What do avatars and virtual worlds have to do with search?  They alter the playing field.  First there was a search engine with a search box where you entered a term and examined the results that came back.  More recently, everything is supposedly shared, i.e. Social Search.  Health search becomes share your health story with others, share your favorite movies, share your every move with Twitter, and so on.

Well, with the Rocketon and Weblin avatars, you can share your searching and / or discovery with others pretty much literally (or virtually) and in real time.  I could meet up with Kaila’s avatar (”weblina”) and we, I mean they – our virtual selves – could travel from site to site for as long as we liked.  No other program is involved – we become fellow web travelers “on top of” every page that we visit, talking in real time as we go – and occasionally bumping into other travelers, both friends and strangers.
