Sputtr, the multi-search engine, recently announced the release of a major new feature that gives its users the ability to actively participate in building the world’s largest and most comprehensive multi-search engine.


I’m really excited about this one. The key here is that any alternative search engine can submit a square logo and become one of Sputtr’s choices. The entire Top 100 could be a category! I hope that every Alt search engine reading this post will go to Sputtr and submit their “button.”

Steffen Hilgemann, founder and CEO of Sputtr explains: “This new feature allows our users to upload and submit completely new search engines to Sputtr’s multi-search engine. By doing so, our users will actively contribute towards building the most comprehensive and user-friendly multi-search engine on the Internet today. Sputtr already includes industry leaders such as Google, Yahoo, Ask, and many more. But in the future we would like to extend our reach to the thousands of alternative or niche search engines that today’s internet users increasingly utilize to find relevant results in an ever more complex online world.”

I have watched Sputtr’s progress for a long time, and this is the moment that I have been waiting for, the ability to select from the vast array of alternative search engines that we enjoy so much on AltSearchEngines. Congratulations, Sputtr!

Sputtr currently holds a database of nearly 100 search engines that its users can utilize to build their own customized multi-search engine on Sputtr’s homepage. Says Steffen: “With the help of our active user base we hope to grow the number of search engines on our site to 1,000 by the end of 2008. This would mark a significant improvement in our service for our users, and would increase the reach of the site by a factor of ten.”


Sharing Or Submitting New Search Engines:

Users, who would like to share their alternative search engines with others on Sputtr, can now do so by submitting them to the site for free. Every user can submit as many search engines as he or she wishes, and after anti-spam approval these will be added to the site to be available to and be used by the public. Alternative Search Engine owners who wish to give Sputtr’s users the choice of utilizing their search engine as part of their custom search page are encouraged to visit Sputtr.
